Mission Statement: To manage, protect, preserve and perpetuate the marine and wildlife resources in the territory.

Fisheries Division

The sustainable use of coral reef and associated resources is an important issue in American Samoa. With pressure from increasing population, economic instability, and global climate change, managing coastal resources and their users necessitate a multi-faceted approach. Understanding sportfish population dynamics, the ecosystem and the fishery are vital in coming up with management measures to protect and restore exploited stocks. Management measures should be based on scientific information and social aspects by involving the village communities in management.
